Leaders are role models and influencers with several communities simultaneously, and must possess skills and attitudes consistent with success in this larger context.

The Illinois Leadership Competencies model is composed of 21 individual competencies encompassed within four layers. The layers at the top begin with wide, universal competencies and narrow down to personal competencies.
The layers consist of Community/Society, Organization, Interpersonal/Team, and Personal/Self. To view a description of each layer, click the 'details' button under each layer name. To hide the description, click the X in the pop-up window.
